Henan Liaison Unit of HKSAR Government holds Exchange Meeting for Wine Merchants in Hong Kong and Henan (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Henan Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held the Exchange Meeting for Wine Merchants in Hong Kong and Henan today (December 4) in Zhengzhou to promote the wine industry in Hong Kong and facilitate exchanges between wine merchants in both places.

The Henan Liaison Unit invited the President of the Hong Kong Wine Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency to share views under the themes "Promoting the Hong Kong Brands in China" and "The Brand Values of Hong Kong Wine Merchants - Professional Services and Accreditations". In addition, the delegates of the Hong Kong Wine Chamber of Commerce and members of the Henan Province Alcoholic Industry Association had a discussion on changes in the business models of wine importers, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought about by the changes in the wine logistics model, the practice of e-commerce and the new policies on cross-border e-commerce in the Mainland on the wine industry. The exchange meeting attracted more than 100 merchants from both places.

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan, Mr Vincent Fung, said that following the abolishment of wine duty in February 2008, the development of the wine industry in Hong Kong has been fast making Hong Kong the wine trading and distribution hub of Asia. Under the "Co-operation Arrangement on Customs Facilitation Measures for Wine Entering the Mainland through Hong Kong" signed by the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department and the General Administration of Customs of the Mainland in February 2010, registered wine importers can use a designated web-based system for declaration of wine consignment information to the Mainland Customs. Wine consignments arriving at designated ports in the Mainland would then receive immediate customs clearance under the arrangement. In November 2017, this arrangement was extended from five Customs Districts to all ports in all 42 Customs Districts of the Mainland.

In 2016, the re-export value of wine in Hong Kong reached $5.2 billion, of which 85.9 per cent of wine, at a value of $4.4 billion, was re-exported to the Mainland. The figure showed that Hong Kong is the gateway for wine merchants throughout the world to enter the Mainland market. Mr Fung said that today's meeting could offer an effective platform for facilitating the development of wine trading between the two places and helping the wine merchants in Henan Province to better understand the competitive edge of the wine industry in Hong Kong.

The event was fully supported by the Henan Department of Commerce, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office in Henan, the Henan Province Alcoholic Industry Association, the Hong Kong Wine Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency.
