Transcript of remarks by S for S after FCC meeting
***************************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, at a media session at Central Government Offices, Tamar, after the Fight Crime Committee meeting this afternoon (November 27):

Reporter: Mr Lee, can I ask you a question in English please? It seems there is a 10 per cent increase in rape and indecent assault cases. Is it a big concern and what will you be doing to tackle this problem?

Secretary for Security: We are of course very concerned with the trend because sexual offences have been on the rise. We have been monitoring the situation and analysing what are the causes. Among the cases that the police are investigating, it is discovered that some victims, particularly in rape cases, have put themselves at risk by allowing themselves to go to meetings with people they only get to know for a very short period of time, particularly knowing these suspects through the social media and then attending meetings with these so-called new friends alone in private premises or at locations where only two of them are present. This is something we should try to pay more attention to, so as to reduce the risk of going to private meetings with people we only happen to know for a short while. Where possible, maybe meet these people with friends or with people we trust, rather than going to these private meetings alone.
