Poll for Central and Western District Council by-election to be held tomorrow
*****************************************************************************
Electors in the Peak Constituency and the Tung Wah Constituency of the Central and Western District Council are urged to vote in the by-election tomorrow (November 26).

The two polling stations for the Peak Constituency are located at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre, 29 Cotton Tree Drive, Central, Hong Kong, and Upper Building, German Swiss International School Peak Campus, 11 Guildford Road, the Peak, Hong Kong. The two polling stations for the Tung Wah Constituency are located at SKH St Matthew's Primary School, 12-20 New Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, and King's College Old Boys' Association Primary School, 58 Bridges Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. These four polling stations will be open to electors from 7.30am until 10.30pm.

"Voting is very simple. All electors need to do is to show their identity document at the polling station where they will be issued a ballot paper, use the chop provided to stamp a tick on the ballot paper in the circle opposite the name of the chosen candidate, and fold the ballot paper inward in half before putting it into the ballot box," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said today (November 25).

If any electors of the Peak Constituency or the Tung Wah Constituency who are remanded or detained by law enforcement agencies other than the Correctional Services Department (CSD) on the polling day wish to vote in the by-election, they will be arranged to cast their ballots at the dedicated polling station located at Happy Valley Police Station, 60 Sing Woo Road, Happy Valley, Hong Kong. The polling hours will be from 7.30am to 10.30pm.

Three dedicated polling stations will also be set up at penal institutions for electors of the Peak Constituency or the Tung Wah Constituency who are imprisoned or remanded in the CSD's custody to cast their votes at their respective penal institutions. For security reasons, the polling hours will be from 9am to 4pm.

The voting procedure and the venue setup at the dedicated polling stations are basically the same as those of the ordinary polling stations.

The spokesman reminded people that according to the law, the polling stations are restricted areas accessible only by electors and authorised persons.

"Unauthorised persons are strictly prohibited from using mobile phones, taking photographs, filming, and making video or audio recordings in the polling stations," he added.

Enquiries about the by-election can be made to the election hotline at 2891 1001, which will operate from 7am to 11pm tomorrow.

A complaints hotline, 2827 7251, will also be in service from 7.30am to 11pm tomorrow to handle complaints about breaches of electoral rules and guidelines.

Once the poll is closed, the polling stations at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre, German Swiss International School Peak Campus, SKH St Matthew's Primary School and King's College Old Boys' Association Primary School will be turned into counting stations. The public are welcome to watch the vote counting within the designated area at the counting stations.

To protect the secrecy of votes, the ballot boxes at the dedicated polling stations will be delivered in accordance with the constituencies to the respective main counting stations at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre and SKH St Matthew's Primary School for opening after the close of polling. The ballot papers concerned will be mixed with the ballot papers cast at the main counting stations before counting of votes begins.

"The Returning Officer will declare the election results of the Tung Wah Constituency at the counting station at SKH St Matthew's Primary School, and declare the election results of the Peak Constituency at the counting station at Hong Kong Park Sports Centre," the spokesman said.

The two candidates contesting the Peak Constituency by-election are Young Chit-on Jeremy (No. 1) and Chin Chi-kin Edward (No. 2). The three candidates contesting the Tung Wah Constituency by-election are Lui Kam-keung (No. 1), Ng Hoi-yan Bonnie (No. 2) and Lau Shu-yin (Olivia) (No. 3).

The elected candidates will fill two vacant seats of the elected members of the Central and Western District Council.
