Housing Authority commends outstanding industry practitioners (with photos)
***************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

More than 150 contractors and front-line workers were presented with awards commending their outstanding performance today (November 25) at the presentation ceremony for the Quality Public Housing Construction and Maintenance Awards 2017, organised by the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA).

In addition to paying tribute to contractors, supervisors, project teams and front-line workers for their excellent performance, the Awards also encourage them to improve and seek breakthroughs in the applications of technology and standards of workmanship, with an aim to enhance the standards of building and maintenance services for public rental housing.

Officiating at the award presentation ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing), Mr Stanley Ying, said that in order to meet the next 10 years' public housing supply target of 280 000 units, besides making an effort to secure more land, the HA also needs the active collaboration of industry practitioners to face the challenges in the construction of public housing.

For the existing some 180 public housing estates, the HA has relied on the maintenance industry to continue improving their environment through renovation and improvement works, he continued.

The 153 awards presented this year were critically assessed by a judging panel comprising representatives of the HA and co-organisers. Assessment criteria included work quality, workmanship, environmental protection, occupational safety and health, ethical integrity, partnering and customer service.

The co-organisers of the Awards are the Hong Kong Construction Association, the Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors, the Hong Kong Construction Sub-Contractors Association, the Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union, the Construction Site Workers General Union, the Hong Kong and Kowloon Electrical Engineering and Appliances Trade Workers Union, the Hong Kong General Union of Lift and Escalator Employees, the Labour Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the Construction Industry Council and the Vocational Training Council.

Information on the awards will be uploaded to the HA/Housing Department website (www.housingauthority.gov.hk) shortly. An exhibition featuring the awardees and winning projects will be staged at Domain in Yau Tong from December 2 to 10 (10am to 10.30pm).
