******************************************************************************************
The Small and Medium Enterprises Committee (SMEC) and the Trade and Industry Department (TID) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) led a Hong Kong small and medium enterprises (SMEs) delegation to Nansha today (November 24) to help Hong Kong SMEs learn about the latest developments and investment opportunities in Nansha.

The delegation was led by the SMEC Chairman, Dr Jonathan Choi, and the Director-General of Trade and Industry, Ms Salina Yan. Over 50 participants, including SMEC members, representatives of Hong Kong's major trade and industrial organisations and SME associations, joined the visit.

The delegation was received by the General Director of the Administration Committee of the Guangzhou Nansha Development Zone (Free Trade Zone), Mr Cai Chaolin, and attended an exchange session with other Nansha officials. Delegates were briefed on the development plan and related policies of Nansha, and exchanged views with Nansha officials on enhancing trade co-operation between the two cities.

To gain a deeper understanding about the business environment of Nansha, the delegation exchanged views with representatives of start-ups and SMEs who shared their experience and tips in developing business and tapping into Nansha.

The delegation also visited the local development project of a Hong Kong enterprise, Kingboard (Panyu Nansha) Petrochemical Company Limited, as well as the Express Rail Link Qingsheng Station and the Nansha Pearl Bay Development Exhibition Center to learn more about the transportation development and town planning of Nansha.

"The Central Government proposed the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area to promote mutually beneficial co-operation among cities in the region. As infrastructure projects such as the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge come to completion, the connection between Hong Kong and Nansha will be closer. There will be huge potential for co-operative development between the two cities," Dr Choi said.

Ms Yan expressed gratitude to the Nansha District Government for its reception and said, "The HKSAR Government will endeavour to assist Hong Kong enterprises in capturing opportunities brought about by the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, which is a national development blueprint. In this regard, the TID will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Commerce to take forward the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, promote further economic development and integration between the two sides, and enhance mutual understanding of the businesses and enterprises."

The SMEC is an advisory board set up by the HKSAR Government, with an aim of advising the Government on issues affecting the development of SMEs in Hong Kong and suggesting measures to support and facilitate their development and growth.
