Heritage Museum to showcase outstanding posters from around the world (with photos)

An exhibition entitled "Touch – Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017" will be held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from tomorrow (November 25) to March 26 next year. The exhibition will feature nearly 200 entries from around the world as well as masterpieces designed by five internationally renowned judges, presenting the uniqueness of different cultures along with the designers' colourful and varied creativity.
An opening-cum-prize presentation ceremony was held today (November 24). Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, said that poster art has become an integral part of people's daily lives. Good and creative posters can captivate people's attention and hearts by aesthetic designs. Posters has long been an important platform of communication among people and a witness of time. In order to recognise the distinguished nature of poster art and pay tributes to the talented designers, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is pleased to partner with the Hong Kong Designers Association to hold Hong Kong International Poster Triennial, and show the Government's support to the development of design industry.
There were four categories in this year's competition, namely Ideology, Promotion of Cultural Events, Commercial and Advertising, and Thematic – "Touching". In addition to the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in the four categories, there were also five Judges Awards to accord recognition to outstanding designs.
The competition attracted more than 2 000 entries from 42 countries and regions, covering a wide range of issues on the environment, politics and culture.
A total of 191 shortlisted entries selected by a professional judging panel and representative works designed and donated by the five judges will be featured in the exhibition. The professional judging panel comprised five internationally renowned designers, namely Mr Kjell Ekhorn from Norway, Mr Kazunari Hattori from Japan, Mr Tommy Li from Hong Kong, Ms Ariane Spanier from Germany, and Mr Niklaus Troxler from Switzerland. Their donations will become part of the collection of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
Other officiating guests at the ceremony included the Chairman of the Hong Kong Designers Association, Mr Ron Leung; the Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee, Mr Stanley Wong; member of the judging panel of the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2017 Mr Tommy Li; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Ms Fione Lo.
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum has organised six consecutive editions of the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial since 2001. Through competitions, exhibitions and symposiums held every three years, the event has documented the development of international poster design by showcasing and collecting outstanding works from all over the world.
