Guangdong Development and Reform Commission to hold Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Main Bridge toll levels hearing
******************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (November 21), upon the request of the Guangdong Development and Reform Commission (GDDRC), helped in disseminating the following information:

"According to the Inter-Governmental Agreement Signed by the Three Governments in Respect of the Construction, Operation, Maintenance and Management of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) and the relevant laws of the Mainland, the GDDRC will hold a hearing in late December in Zhuhai to gauge the views from operators, consumers and other relevant parties on the necessity and feasibility of the toll levels proposed for the HZMB Main Bridge. The hearing will be open to Hong Kong residents. For the enrolment arrangement and other details of the hearing, please refer to the GDDRC's website (Chinese only): www.gddrc.gov.cn/zwgk/tzgg/zxtz/201711/t20171120_446007.html."

A spokesman for the TD said that the HZMB Main Bridge is located within the Mainland waters, and the toll plaza is also situated in the Mainland. According to the territoriality principle (i.e. handling all issues in accordance with the respective local laws) and the inter-governmental agreement, the HZMB Authority, which is responsible for the operation of the Main Bridge, will collect tolls from vehicles using the HZMB Main Bridge in accordance with the laws of the Mainland. The toll levels should be approved according to the Mainland's laws and procedures after the three governments have completed the relevant discussion. It is the requirement of the Mainland's laws and part of the approval procedure for the GDDRC to hold the HZMB Main Bridge toll levels hearing.
