Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North today (November 19) in which a 55-year-old man died.

     At about 6.05am, a taxi driven by a 42-year-old man was traveling along North Lantau Highway towards Kowloon. When approaching near Sunny Bay, the taxi reportedly collided with a private car driven by a 64-year-old woman. The private car stopped and was crashed by a taxi driven by a 55-year-old man from the back. Then, the private car collided with another taxi driven by a 41-year-old man and a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 42-year-old man.

     The 55-year-old male taxi driver sustained serious head injuries. He was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 7.16am. Sustaining slight injuries, the 64-year-old female private car driver, the 42-year-old male taxi driver, the 41-year-old male taxi driver and his 58-year-old female passenger were sent to North Lantau Hospital in conscious state.

     The 42-year-old male taxi driver and the 64-year-old female private car driver were arrested for dangerous driving. The female private car driver was released on bail pending further enquiries and is required to report back to Police in early December. The male taxi driver is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
