****************************************************
The Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, visited Wan Chai this afternoon (November 18) to learn more about the livelihood of local people and the development of the district.

Accompanied by the District Officer (Wan Chai), Mr Rick Chan, Mr Lee first visited the HOPE Support Service Centre (HOPE Centre) for Ethnic Minorities of International Social Service Hong Kong Branch. He was briefed on the services provided by the centre. Mr Lee also chatted with the ethnic minorities in the centre to learn more about their daily lives.

The HOPE Centre offers various support services for ethnic minorities living in Hong Kong including language training classes, computer classes, tutorial classes for children and youth activities. It also joins hands with schools, community groups and religious organisations in reaching out to the ethnic minority communities.

Afterwards, Mr Lee met with members of the Wan Chai District Council to exchange views on local affairs and discuss issues relating to law and order in the district.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Lee officiated at the "Police-community Partnership for Building a Crime-free and Harmonious Community in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland" carnival at Victoria Park, which aims to disseminate anti-crime and anti-drug messages to the community.
