Electrical appliance supplier convicted of supplying induction cooker with false trade description

Hong Kong Customs earlier received information alleging that a shop, in the course of its trade, was claiming that the power of an induction cooker was 2 000 watts. Investigation confirmed that the actual power of two induction cookers for sale at the shop were only 1 440W and 1 540W respectively, both differing from the value as declared.
Customs reminds traders to comply with the requirements of the TDO and consumers to procure products at reputable shops.
Under the TDO, any person who supplies goods with a false trade description in the course of trade or business, or in possession of any goods for sale with a false trade description, commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
