The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

To encourage more front-line healthcare staff to receive the seasonal influenza vaccination, the Hospital Authority (HA) Chief Manager (Nursing), Mr Lawrence Poon, visited the front-line nurses at Caritas Medical Centre today (November 13) with Chairman of the Association of Hong Kong Nursing Staff (AHKNS) and Legislative Council member Professor Joseph Lee to appeal to them on early vaccination so as to get prepared for the winter influenza peak season. The two served as role models by receiving the influenza vaccination at the ward.

To tie in with the Government Vaccination Programme, the HA commenced vaccination for eligible persons on October 25. This year, the HA has collaborated with the AHKNS to encourage more nursing staff to receive the vaccination so as to protect themselves, their family members and patients. As at today, there were over 14,800 healthcare staff receiving the vaccination, exceeding the number in the same period last year by more than 7 per cent. A series of measures have already been put in place in all clusters to encourage and appeal to the front-line staff to receive the jab including setting up a mobile vaccination team, holding a staff education forum and a health education talk and establishing designated vaccination station and booth facilities.
