SCED meets with trade representatives of APEC member economies in Vietnam (with photos)
***************************************************************************************
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, met with various trade ministers and representatives of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies in Da Nang, Vietnam, today (November 9). They had useful exchanges on trade co-operation as well as issues of mutual concern.

Mr Yau had bilateral meetings with the Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Mr Enggartiasto Lukita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr Don Pramudwinai. Mr Yau said Thailand and Indonesia are the third and sixth largest trading partners of Hong Kong among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries respectively, and added that both Hong Kong and Thailand would continue to prosper with the stable investment environment secured under the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement signed between the two places. He said he strongly believed that the Hong Kong - ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA), once effective, will further strengthen the already close economic ties between Hong Kong and ASEAN member states. He expressed the hope that these economies could capitalise on the benefits brought forth with the entry into force of the FTA to generate new business opportunities.

Mr Yau also met with the Minister for Trade and Export Growth of New Zealand, Mr David Parker. He said Hong Kong looked forward to working closely with New Zealand in advancing trade liberalisation in various trade fora and fostering even stronger ties between Hong Kong and New Zealand.

In the afternoon, Mr Yau joined the lunch hosted by the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, for Hong Kong representatives to the APEC Business Advisory Council. He also attended the CEO Summit, in which the Chief Executive spoke as a panellist.

Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (November 10).
