Operational event at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station
****************************************************
An operational event at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station (YNPS) was reported today (November 3) on the website of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Co Ltd (YNPC), a spokesperson for the Security Bureau said.

On November 2, during the start-up of Unit 2 of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station after the completion of a planned refuelling outage, a malfunction at a feedwater valve led to the automatic shutdown of the unit. The operators returned the unit to a safe condition.

The event was classified as a "Below Scale Licensing Operational Event" (i.e. a "Level 0" event) on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, and has no effect on the safe operation of the nuclear power station, the health of the workers, the nearby public or the environment. All nuclear generating units currently in operation at YNPS remain under normal and stable operation.

YNPC has disclosed details about this event on its website, which can be viewed at the "operational events" section under the "nuclear and radiation safety information" webpage of the YNPC website (www.yjnp.com.cn).
