Second phase influenza vaccination commences next week
******************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

To dovetail with the Government Vaccination Programme (GVP) for 2017/18, the Hospital Authority (HA) will start the second phase of the programme from next Monday (November 6) by providing seasonal influenza vaccination for elderly people aged 65 or above at general outpatient clinics (GOPCs).

The HA spokesperson today (November 3) said that the first phase has commenced for eligible persons on October 25, and so far some 65 000 have received the seasonal influenza vaccination.

The vaccination service is provided at 73 GOPCs in the territory. Addresses and telephone numbers of the GOPCs are accessible at the following link: www.ha.org.hk/goto/gopc/en. Eligible elderly people can conveniently choose to receive the vaccination at any clinic in or near to their residential district. No prior booking is required.

"Those eligible elderly who have follow-up appointments in a GOPC or specialist out-patient clinic in the coming few weeks can also choose to receive vaccination when they attend their scheduled appointments," the spokesperson added.

"Eligible elderly people only need to bring the valid documents, including their Hong Kong identity card, vaccination records, HA outpatient clinic appointment slips (if available), and to approach the staff at the registration counter of the clinic. The staff will then arrange for the vaccination. The service hours for vaccination at GOPCs are from 9am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm every Monday to Friday, excluding evenings, weekends and public holidays. All out-patient clinics will display posters in prominent places to inform the public of the vaccination arrangements."

The spokesperson also reminded the elderly not to receive the vaccination when if they have influenza symptoms, fever or severe illness. The vaccination is not suitable for anyone with the above symptoms, and they should defer the vaccination until they have recovered. Members of the public can make enquiries on the HA hotline 2300 6555 during office hours or visit the following website: www.ha.org.hk/goto/GVP201718/EN for detailed information.
