Teriver Cheung and Chok Kerong to perform jazz concert "Departure" in January
***************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a concert entitled "Departure" by Teriver Cheung and Chok Kerong in January.

Jazz artist Teriver Cheung will collaborate with Singaporean composer and keyboardist Chok Kerong to perform their latest commissioned work "Departure", together with other players of an 11-member chamber jazz ensemble.

Teriver Cheung represents a new generation of jazz artists making their mark on the international stage. Since the reworking of "Hong Kong Episodes" premiered in the 10th anniversary of the World Cultures Festival and its subsequent international tour, Cheung began to develop new ideas revolving around the chamber ensemble concept. He invited Chok to collaborate on this new project. The duo has been regularly working together for the past few years.

Cheung said, "Chok's compositions displayed maturity, advanced rhythmic ideas and a deep understanding of many styles of music. In a way, his personal vision seemed to be developing in parallel with mine. It seems fitting that our individual explorations over the past few years are now converging in 'Departure' - the compositions represent our musical journey thus far and the common space shared between our musical imaginations."

Jazz Up Series: "Departure" by Teriver Cheung and Chok Kerong will be staged at 8pm on January 5 and 6 (Friday and Saturday) at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $150 and $220 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
