**************************************************************************
Brand Hong Kong (BrandHK) is delighted to be among the "crew" for the prestigious Volvo Ocean Race, serving as a supporting organisation for Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag, which is representing Hong Kong for the first time in this renowned global sporting event.

In teaming up with Scallywag, Hong Kong's branding as Asia's world city will be prominently displayed on the sails and hull of the sleek 65-foot ocean-going yacht during the eight-month round-the-world race.

BrandHK's iconic stylised "flying dragon" logo will also be featured at the Scallywag Team Base at each of the 12 stopover locations, where visitors will be able to get a flavour of the Hong Kong lifestyle through thematic displays.

Hong Kong is a host city for the first time in the race's 44-year history, with the racing fleet of seven international teams expected to reach Hong Kong in mid-January 2018.

During the Hong Kong Stopover, a Race Village and Race Festival will be held at Kai Tak Runway Park from January 17 to 31, 2018.

Open to the public free of charge, the Race Festival will include sailing races and activities, concerts, entertainment, exhibitions and corporate hospitality. Around 400 volunteers will be involved in running the event.

"This is a great opportunity from the Volvo Ocean Race and SHK Scallywag teams to help publicise Hong Kong as Asia's world city in full view of international media, sports fans and corporate sponsors," said BrandHK spokesman and Deputy Director of Information Services, Mr Brett Free.

"We look forward to seeing BrandHK's 'flying dragon' soaring high during the race.

"And, during the stopovers, visitors to the Scallywag Team Base will be able to see that Hong Kong is not just a great place for business but also has a fantastic lifestyle that includes world-class sailing opportunities and facilities," he added.

Sponsored by investment and finance firm Sun Hung Kai & Co and skippered by veteran Australian sailor Mr David Witt, Scallywag is crewed by a world-class team of international sailors, including Hong Kong's Tiger Mok.

"We are excited to have BrandHK as part of our 'team' throughout the race and in our Team Base," said the Group Executive Chairman of Sun Hung Kai & Co, Mr Lee Seng Huang.

"We will be doing our very best to make Hong Kong proud during the race. While it was a daunting endeavour to get to where we are, as a late addition to the race, we are now well prepared and determined to take on the best teams in the world."

One of the world's premier sporting challenges, the Volvo Ocean Race covers a total of 45 000 nautical miles across four oceans and six continents.

The first leg of the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race starts on October 22 in Alicante, Spain, with the finish line in The Hague, the Netherlands, scheduled for around June 30, 2018.

In addition to Alicante, Hong Kong and The Hague, other ports of call include (in order) Lisbon (Portugal), Cape Town (South Africa), Melbourne (Australia), Guangzhou (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajaí (Brazil), Newport (United States), Cardiff (Wales) and Gothenburg (Sweden).

BrandHK facebook will bring weekly updates of Scallywag's progress (www.facebook.com/brandhk.isd) while Scallywag also has its own facebook page tracking the action with an on-board reporter (www.facebook.com/scallywaghk)
