****************************************************************************
"Eternal Life - Exploring Ancient Egypt", a major exhibition of the Hong Kong Science Museum, came to a close at 9pm today (October 18). The four-month exhibition was a great success, attracting over 850 000 visitors.

Apart from breaking all attendance records for thematic exhibitions held at the Hong Kong Science Museum, "Eternal Life - Exploring Ancient Egypt" was also one of the most popular thematic exhibitions held by any museum of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).

A spokesman for the LCSD said, "The exhibition recorded an overall daily average of over 7 000 visitors with more than 13 000 daily visitors at its peak. We are grateful for the public support that made this exhibition such a huge success. We also want to express our gratitude to the British Museum and the British Consulate-General Hong Kong for their support in providing precious cultural relics that had never been showcased in Hong Kong, giving the public such a rare opportunity to view the Egyptian treasures."

The spokesman added that the Hong Kong Science Museum specially designed and produced a multimedia programme and a series of interactive exhibits, as well as a number of extension and education activities, such as the Escape Game, to further enhance visitors' experience.

The "Eternal Life - Exploring Ancient Egypt" crossed the boundaries between history, culture and science while exhibiting six Egyptian mummies between 1 800 and 3 000 years old and around 200 invaluable objects. Advanced tomography scanning technology was also applied to provide an alternative approach for visitors to appreciate the culture of ancient Egypt.

The exhibition, which opened on June 2, was one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It was jointly presented by the LCSD and the Trustees of the British Museum, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and the British Museum. Solely sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, it was one of the exhibitions in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Series.
