Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to perform "The Four Musical Periods" concerts in November and December

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present three concerts entitled "The Four Musical Periods" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra in November and December. The concerts will feature guest conductor Jeff Leung and talented young violinists John Lui and Evangeline Wong.

     The programme will include Bach's "Air on the G String" from "Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068" and "Violin Concerto in A Minor, BWV 1041 (1st Movement)", Mozart's "Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, K 218 (1st Movement)", Weber's "Der Freischütz Overture", Debussy's "En bateau" (from "The Petite Suite") and Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice".

     Guest conductor Jeff Leung graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, the US, with a Master Degree of Music in Orchestral Conducting. His conducting mentors include the Assistant Conductor of the Macao Orchestra, Francis Kan; Dr John Winzenburg of Hong Kong Baptist University; the Music Director of the Longview Symphony Orchestra, Dr Gene Moon; and Fred Allen of Stephen F. Austin State University. He was the assistant conductor of the Union Philharmonic Orchestra in the University of Hong Kong as well as the Stephen F. Austin State University Orchestra and its Opera Theatre. He was also the guest conductor of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra and the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble. Leung has been the resident conductor of the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra since 2016.
    
     Fifteen-year-old violinist John Lui is studying in Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary School. He began learning violin at the age of 6 and has received tutelage from Beedarn Chao since 2010. Lui passed Grade 8 violin of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) at the age of 10 with distinction, and was awarded, in two successive years, ATCL and LTCL Performance Diplomas in violin from Trinity College London with distinction. In 2017, Lui obtained an FTCL Performance Diploma in violin from Trinity College London. Lui is also an ATCL Performance Diploma holder in piano from the College.

     Six-year-old violinist Evangeline Wong is studying in Diocesan Girls' Junior School. She began learning violin at a very young age under the tutelage of Kelvin Wong. She has also received coaching from Professor Serguei Fatkouline, Professor Gleb Dontsov and Marianna Dontsov. She passed Grade 5 of the ABRSM violin and piano exams with merit in 2015 and 2016 respectively. She also achieved Grade 5 of the ABRSM Music Theory exam with distinction in 2017. She has been awarded First Prizes for Piano Solo in both 2016 and 2017, as well as Runner-up for Violin Solo in 2017, at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

     "The Four Musical Periods" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 3pm on November 26 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Tai Po Civic Centre and at 8pm on December 1 and 2 (Friday and Saturday) at the Theatre of Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre.
