******************************************************************************************
Following is the speech by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, at the CLP Power Academy Inaugural Ceremony cum Professional Diploma in Power Engineering Course Commencement this evening (October 17):

I just want to say something in English.

I have already given the gist - the CLP abbreviation. And I must pay warm tribute to CLP, to all of you. This is a highly commendable project. It is a shining example of corporate social responsibility and demonstrates your full commitment to Hong Kong, not only providing the power that propels Hong Kong forward, the whole economy forward, but also providing upward social mobility opportunities for our youngsters, at a time when we are really looking for more manpower for the electrical and mechanical trade in Hong Kong. So you really have taken the lead, set a very good example and the Government of Hong Kong is very, very appreciative. Let me just, on behalf of the HKSAR Government, thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You are helping the community, you are also helping our youngsters, and also reinforcing Hong Kong's competitive edge. And, particularly, with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area project coming up and the Belt and Road Initiative, I am sure that there will be many more opportunities in the years ahead for infrastructural development where power will come into a very important position and play a very important role.

So, on this note, I congratulate warmly, once again, CLP on this - upgrading the training school to academy. Certainly, you have gotten a very appropriate Vice Chancellor, Paul (Vice Chancellor of CLP Power Academy, Mr Paul Poon). He is very passionate, very professional and certainly, he will train up and nurture another new generation of capable engineers and technicians.

     Thank you.
