HD volunteers celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with elderly tenants (with photos)
******************************************************************************
To celebrate the coming Mid-Autumn Festival, members of the Housing Department Volunteers Corps organised an afternoon gathering for elderly public housing tenants. The volunteers prepared hand-made cookie mooncakes for the elderly tenants' enjoyment on this festive occasion.

The Chairman of the Volunteer Corps and Assistant Director of Housing (Legal Service), Mrs Kitty Yan, said today (October 3), "In this Mid-Autumn Festival, the Volunteer Corps wish to express their care and love to the elderly tenants who live alone. Turning words into deeds, about 50 members of the Volunteer Corps gathered last Saturday morning (September 30) to prepare about 300 cookie mooncakes, under the guidance of a tutor, all of which were to be given to the elderly tenants that afternoon.

"The Volunteers Corps organised a festive gathering that afternoon at the Shek Wai Kok Community Hall for about 150 elderly tenants from the Shek Wai Kok Estate. Apart from a live performance, the Volunteers Corps also organised photo-taking for the elderly tenants to capture their happy and beautiful moments. At the end of the gathering, lucky bags and our hand-made cookie mooncakes were presented to the elderly tenants, as our blessing and celebration for the festival," Mrs Yan said.

The Housing Department Volunteers Corps, which was established 20 years ago, cares about elderly tenants residing in public rental housing. Members of the Volunteers Corps usually visit the elderly tenants or organise celebratory activities for them during major festivals.
