Hong Kong future urban designers and government officials met together at an exhibition held under the "Liveability by Design" Studio Initiative at the Central Government Offices, Tamar, on September 18 and today (September 25) to exchange views on design and policy to create a better living environment in Hong Kong.
 
     Taken forward by the Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section (GLTMS) of the Development Bureau, the Initiative aims to provide a platform for knowledge exchange on design and policy amongst academia, the Government and professionals.
 
     "The Development Bureau has all along been striving to optimise the liveability values through different initiatives with a view to building a liveable, sustainable and inclusive Hong Kong. We encourage the participation of different stakeholders to enhance the quality and quantity of public spaces and amenities," a spokesperson for the Development Bureau said.
 
     Six local and overseas higher education institutions have participated in the Initiative. They are the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, the Chu Hai College of Higher Education, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong and the University of Western Australia.
 
     Panels and models showcasing curated student works that critique and explore topics of policy relevance to the urban environment in Hong Kong are on display at the exhibition. It enables attendees to better appreciate the ideas of future urban designers, architects and landscape architects in their explorations for achieving a more liveable city. Gathering sessions were held for government officials and the students to participate in discussions on students' project work.
 
     Those attending these gathering sessions included the Permanent Secretary for the Development (Works), Mr Hon Chi-keung; the Director of Planning, Mr Raymond Lee; Deputy Secretary for Development (Works) Miss Joey Lam; and lecturers, academic associates and student representatives from the participating higher education institutions.
 
     After the exhibition, the contents will be uploaded to the GLTMS website.
