Hong Kong Customs combats unfair trade practice at medicine shop

Customs officers conducted a test-buy operation at a medicine shop in To Kwa Wan this afternoon. Two saleswomen were suspected to have applied a false trade description on a brand of medicine by stating it was a particular brand of medicine. Customs officers then arrested two women aged 43 and 42. Investigation is ongoing and the arrested persons have been released on bail pending further investigation.
Customs reminds traders to comply with the requirements of the TDO and consumers to procure services at reputable shops.
Under the TDO, any person who in the course of any trade or business applies a false trade description to any goods or services commits an offence. The maximum penalty is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
