Carnivals, exhibition and variety show among highlights of 20th anniversary celebration (with photos)

     Two carnivals, a calligraphy inscriptions exhibition and a variety show will be held in the coming days as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
 
     The Love Easy Fiesta presented by the Kwun Tong District Office and produced by RunOurCity will be held at the Kwun Tong Promenade and on Kwun Tong's Hoi Bun Road on September 24 (Sunday) from noon to 5pm.
 
     Members of the public will be able to enjoy the Tape Art On Road, Drum Rock'n Road and Super Obstacle Run activities, as well as other attractions including a rope skipping performance, a cheerleading show and booth games such as the iSports Express augmented reality game truck.
 
     Tape Art On Road will see artists and tutors lead visitors to create tape art graffiti and enormous 3D artworks on the street. Those feeling the beat can make noise in the Drum Rock'n Road workshop.
 
     Tape Art On Road, Drum Rock'n Road and Super Obstacle Run require prior registration and the online registration quotas have been filled. Admission on the spot for the Tape Art On Road and Drum Rock'n Road programmes is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

     The Basic Law is the cornerstone of Hong Kong's development. To enhance the public's knowledge of the Basic Law, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce will jointly present "To Commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Basic Law Calligraphy Inscriptions Exhibition". Exhibits including 103 engraved stone tablets with calligraphy inscriptions of the full text of the Basic Law will be shown from September 22 (Friday) to October 1 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Central Library.
 
     The engraved Lingbi stone tablets were created by 97 renowned Chinese calligraphers and engraved by 56 sculpture artists over a period of six years. The project was completed in 1997 and cost RMB70 million.
       
     The opening hours of the exhibition will be from 10am to 8pm daily, except on September 22 when the opening hours will be from 2pm to 8pm. Admission is free. For enquiries, please call 2545 6166.

     To promote Buddhist practices of kindness and to pray for a prosperous, peaceful and joyful future for Hong Kong, the Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association will stage Buddhist Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Return of Hong Kong - Buddhism Carnivals at Fa Hui Park in Sham Shui Po on September 23 (Saturday) from 9am to 4.30pm.  
 
     The event will be open to the public for free. Programmes will include an exhibition of thangka and Guanyin paintings, a matching band parade, Chinese medicinal consultations, dental consultations and more. Visitors can also view the opening ceremony with celebrity performances at 11am.

     To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival Evening Gala in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of HK's Reunification with China will be staged at the soccer pitch of Southorn Playground in Wanchai on September 24 (Sunday) from 5pm to 8.30pm.
 
     Organised by the Wan Chai District Arts, Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association, the event will feature booth games, a luminous dragon and lion dance, classic songs, a band show, acrobatic feats and more. Admission is free. For enquiries, please call 2895 5172.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

     Altogether, more than 900 events and activities are being staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
