CS commends 1823 staff for their professionalism (with photos)
**************************************************************
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited the 1823 centre this afternoon (September 6) to express his appreciation to the staff for their hard work and efficiency in handling requests for assistance by Hong Kong students who have experienced delay in receiving their visas for studying in the United Kingdom.

Mr Cheung noted that a dedicated hotline and email address were set up yesterday (September 5) for registering cases. So far, more than 1,200 calls and 500 emails have been received.

"I highly commend our 1823 colleagues for their professionalism in handling enquiries by Hong Kong students. The staff were requested to set up the hotline within a very short period and I am most grateful for their co-operation and dedication," Mr Cheung said.

Launched by the Efficiency Unit in July 2001, 1823 provides a round-the-clock, one-stop contact point to answer general public enquiries for 22 government departments and receive complaints and suggestions about any government service.

With 370 full-time staff members, 1823 handled more than 3.7 million calls and 390,000 non-voice contacts, including submissions via email, mobile app and e-form, in 2016. It is the biggest contact centre in Hong Kong.

In 2007, 1823 was the first department to be awarded the ISO 10002 complaints handling certification. Its staff members are frequent winners of the Ombudsman’s Awards for Officers of Public Organisations.
