Exhibition, rugby championship, orienteering day and carnivals among highlights of 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)

     An exhibition, a rugby championship, an orienteering day and two carnivals are among the events being held in the coming days as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

     The last leg of the "HKSAR 20th Anniversary Roving Exhibition" will open at the ground floor of Times Square in Causeway Bay on September 8 (Friday) and run until September 18.

     An LED touchscreen panel will be set up at the venue to showcase the developments and achievements of the HKSAR over the past 20 years in areas such as the economy, technology, infrastructure, tourism, culture and sport. The exhibition will also feature winning entries of the 20th anniversary poster and video competitions.

     An interactive game zone as well as a giant rubber duck for photo-taking and selfies are among the attractions. The 20th anniversary theme song "Hong Kong Our Home" and two promotional videos with the theme "Together · Progress · Opportunity" will also be shown. Visitors can take home a 20th anniversary souvenir distributed on the day by clicking the "Like" button on the HKSAR 20th anniversary Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HKSAR20) at the exhibition venue.

     The opening hours of the exhibition are from 10am to 9pm. Members of the public are welcome to visit, and admission is free.

     The New Territories Regional Sports Association will hold the 6th New Territories Regional Rugby 7s Championship and Carnival in Celebration of HKSAR 20th Anniversary at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground on September 10 (Sunday).
 
     Eighteen teams of men and women from nine district sports associations in the New Territories will compete for the cup, plate, bowl and shield awards in the rugby sevens championship. There will also be several rugby booth games for public participation.
 
     The competition will be held from 8.30am to 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend for free. For enquiries, please call 2704 1823.

     The opening ceremony and parade for an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and the 50th anniversary of the organising association, the Kowloon City Chiu Kiu Yue Lan Association, will be held on September 6 (Wednesday). A parade team with more than 500 people will march from Argyle Street Playground to the Tin Hau Temple along Tak Ku Ling Road in Kowloon City and return to the starting point.
 
     The event will be open to the public for free. Associated programmes will include cultural performances, an exhibition, cultural and historical tours, food booths and more. The exhibition and ceremony will be held at Kowloon City Plaza on September 6 at 2pm and 6.30pm respectively. Other activities will be held at the Argyle Street Playground from September 6 to 10.  
 
     The opening hours for the activities at Argyle Street Playground are from 9.30am to 10pm on September 6; from 11am to 10pm on September 7, 9 and 10; and from noon to 10pm on September 8. For enquiries, please call 2330 6461.

     The Celebrating National Day and the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR Carnival will take place at Sha Tin Central Park on September 10 (Sunday) from 1pm to 5pm.
 
     Organised by the Government Employees Association, the carnival will feature booth games, dancing and singing performances, a parent-child art workshop, a kids' car race, a demonstration by Customs detector dogs and more.

     City Orientation Communion Day, organised by the Sha Tin District Community Fund and the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association and to be held on September 9 (Saturday), aims to foster social integration of persons with disabilities.

     Members of the public will be able to enjoy an orienteering challenge in which participants including persons with disabilities can join together as teams to complete various tasks. The orienteering challenge will be held from 10am to noon at Sha Tin Park. Registration is required. A ceremony and talent performances will be held from 2.15pm to 4.30pm at the Entrance Arena, 1/F, New Town Plaza, Sha Tin. For registration and enquiries, please call 2697 5331.

     The Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification cum Yau Tsim Mong Awards Presentation Ceremony of Youth Programme 2017 is organised by the Yau Tsim Mong District Youth Programme Committee and the Yau Tsim Mong District Office. It will be held at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazzas A and B on September 10 (Sunday) from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
 
     The event will enable young people to express their creativity through music and magic performances. Prizes will be presented to the winners of the Summer Youth Creativity Competition 2017 and the Outstanding Volunteer Selection Award. All winning entries of the competition will be displayed at the venue.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

     Altogether, more than 900 events and activities are being staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
