Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund continues to process claims for shortfall in ex gratia payment on severance payment

     Regarding the payment by the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund (PWIF) of the shortfall in ex gratia payment on severance payment (SP) to claimants, a spokesman for the Labour Department today (August 31) stated that over 500 claimants had been paid a total amount of $14.4 million for the shortfall in ex gratia payment.
 
     "Any claims from past applicants against the PWIF Board in connection with the judgment of the Court of Final Appeal (CFA) regarding the method of calculation of ex gratia payment on SP under PWIF will be processed on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with the CFA's interpretation of the relevant provisions and having regard to the related information provided by the claimants. The PWIF Board has thus far received some 720 claims for the shortfall in ex gratia payment on SP. A total of 717 claims have been processed, with payment of the shortfall made to 531 claimants," the spokesman said.
