Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected smuggled electronic products (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 29) seized a large haul of suspected smuggled electronic products with an estimated market value of about $2.3 million at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

     Customs officers intercepted an outgoing private car at Lok Ma Chau Control Point yesterday evening. After inspection, a batch of electronic products including 903 used smartphones, 254 solid state drives and some electronic parts were seized from a secret compartment within the boot of the private car. The 43-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
