DSD repairs broken sewer
************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Drainage Services Department (DSD) today (August 25) announced that a sewer with a diameter of 450mm near Mills & Chung Path in Southern District of Hong Kong was found broken due to Tropical Cyclone Hato, leading to the discharge of sewage and potentially affecting the water quality of the nearby Deep Water Bay Beach. The EPD collected water samples at the beach yesterday (August 24). The test results indicated that the water quality was normal. The DSD has already arranged emergency repair and will start replacing the damaged sewer with a view to completing the repair works within a fortnight.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has earlier announced the temporary closure of Deep Water Bay Beach for urgent cleaning and maintenance of shark prevention nets owing to Tropical Cyclone Hato. The reopening of the beach will be announced in due course.
