Carnivals, indoor dragon boat competition and art exhibition among highlights of 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)
***************************************************************

Two carnivals, an indoor dragon boat competition and an art exhibition will be held in the coming days as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Together We Build - Community Engagement in Public Space Transformation @ SummerFest Lifestyle, organised by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, co-organised by the Central and Western District Office and Central Venue Management and assisted by the Central and Western District Council, will be an interactive and experiential activity involving cross-sector and cross-generation engagement. The event will be staged from August 25 to 27 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space.

The carnival's aim is to transform public space for meaningful use to fit different lifestyles and needs, foster social integration, bring creativity to open space and arouse public interest in architecture and design. It will bring together more than 2 000 participants to build 20 large-sized pieces of furniture and a giant outdoor maze featuring the theme of healthy lifestyle.

In addition, participants will have a chance to take part in putting together a 5 000-square-metre "HK"-shaped giant outdoor maze, with paths totalling 1 020 metres in length, to be formed by pallets. An application for a Guinness World Record for "the longest line of pallets" is planned.

Components of the large furniture will be transformed into sedan chairs for a race through the maze. Each team will be required to carry a sedan chair and complete specified tasks in the maze. Visitors can also enjoy various DIY workshops and parent-child activities.

The event hours are from 9am to 6pm. Online registration for participation is required to build the giant outdoor maze and join workshops at www.webuild.skhwc.org.hk. Limited seats for workshops are also available on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-in admission on the day. For enquiries, please call 2533 1209.
