Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (August 18) that the red flags at Hung Shing Yeh Beach and Lo So Shing Beach in Islands District have been lowered and the beaches have been reopened.

The beaches were temporarily closed earlier on after palm stearin was found on the beaches. According to the Environmental Protection Department, the water quality of the beaches has improved and is suitable for swimming.

Although the beaches have by and large been cleaned up, there may still be trace amounts of palm stearin pellets remaining in the sand. Members of the public should stay alert at the reopened beaches, and not let children play with or put the palm stearin pellets into their mouths for the sake of safety.
