Multimedia show "Human Locomotion" to tell story of British photographer Eadweard Muybridge (with photos)

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the show will combine contemporary dance, physical theatre and impressive visual art to pay tribute to Muybridge, who invented the zoopraxiscope - a pioneering movie projector - and thus prefigured the era of film. Laterna magika's productions have much in common with Muybridge's work, with connections in movement, photography and film linking the arts group with the versatile photographer.
Laterna magika is an established multimedia theatre company with a history of more than half a century. It made its debut at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958 and was subsequently invited to perform worldwide. Laterna magika is one of the four artistic companies of the National Theatre in the Czech Republic, and has created more than 30 productions and various experimental projects. Its unique approach of combining dance, projection, theatre and new media has been widely acclaimed.
"Human Locomotion" will be staged at 8pm on September 29 and 30 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on October 1 (Sunday) at the Theatre of Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $220 and $280 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
