SED saddened by passing of Professor Sir David Todd

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, today (August 17) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Sir David Todd and extended his deepest condolences to Professor Sir David Todd's family.

     "Professor Sir David Todd was devoted to public service and had in particular rendered significant contributions to the higher education sector.  He was an experienced member of the then University and Polytechnic Grants Committee from 1986 to 1993, and also the Founding Chairman of the Research Grants Council (RGC) from 1991 to 1993. Under Professor Sir David Todd's sterling leadership, the RGC had evolved into a respected academic research funding body. His passing is a great loss to the higher education sector," Mr Yeung said.

     Professor Sir David Todd also contributed tremendously to education in Hong Kong in other capacities. He had been the Chair Professor of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, the Founding President of the Hong Kong College of Physicians and the Founding President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.
