CE meets Governor of Shandong Province (with photo)

The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, met the Governor of Shandong Province, Mr Gong Zheng, at the Chief Executive's Office this afternoon (August 16).

Mrs Lam welcomed Mr Gong’s first visit to Hong Kong after his assumption of office and wished him every success in hosting the Hong Kong Shandong Week in Hong Kong.

Mrs Lam stated that Hong Kong and Shandong enjoy a close economic and trade relationship, and that Hong Kong is the preferred location outside Shandong for listing by enterprises from Shandong Province. In 1992, Tsingtao Brewery from Shandong Province was one of the nine Mainland enterprises in the first-ever batch of such enterprises to be listed in Hong Kong. There are now over 40 enterprises from Shandong listed in Hong Kong. She welcomed Shandong to continue making use of Hong Kong as the prime location for Mainland enterprises to "go global" as well as "attract foreign capital" to the Mainland. As a coastal and economically vibrant province, Shandong holds an important role in the Belt and Road Initiative. It is hoped that Hong Kong would provide the necessary support in respect of investment and financing as well as professional services for Shandong's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Expressing her gratitude to the Shandong Government for its staunch support for the work of the Shandong Liaison Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, she said she hoped that the two places would build on the existing basis to enhance exchanges and co-operation in more areas.
