CE officiates at opening of Kai San Road (with photos/video)
************************************************************
The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, officiated at the opening of Kai San Road today (August 16), turning a new page for the enhanced connectivity of the Kai Tak Development (KTD) area with its neighbouring districts.

Kai San Road, a new carriageway linking the KTD area and San Po Kong, is one of the major infrastructure works of the KTD. This new carriageway, running across Prince Edward Road East, will become a major link between the KTD area and San Po Kong. Kai San Road together with the various pedestrian facilities completed earlier can enhance the connectivity of Kai Tak with its neighbouring districts as well as integrate the vibrancy of the KTD area with the characteristics of its surrounding districts.

The concept of "Public Creatives" has been introduced for the KTD by using a place branding approach to reflect Kai Tak's planning vision and to help build the public's sense of identity and belonging towards the development characteristics of Kai Tak. The signature colour and logo of "Public Creatives" were applied on the side walls of Kai San Road to reflect the uniqueness and vibrancy of Kai Tak. Following the completion of infrastructure projects in the KTD area, the unique branding of Kai Tak will emerge on various types of street furniture, such as street lamp poles, street name poles and the paving pattern of the pavements.

The KTD is a multi-faceted and complex urban development project. Together with the development in Kowloon East, the whole area will be developed into Hong Kong's second central business district. Not only could it promote the sustained economic growth in Hong Kong, it could also stimulate regeneration of the adjacent districts of Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin and Kwun Tong.

Kai San Road, about 570 metres long, connecting Concorde Road of the KTD area and Tsat Po Street of San Po Kong, will open to the public at 11.59pm tonight.

Other officiating guests today included the Secretary for Development, Mr Michael Wong; the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Hon Chi-keung; the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Lam Sai-hung; the Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council, Mr Pun Kwok-wah; and the Chairman of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Mr Li Tak-hong.
