St Stephen's Beach and Pui O Beach reopened

Attention TV/radio announcers:

Please broadcast the following as soon as possible and repeat it at regular intervals:

Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (August 15) that the red flags at St Stephen's Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island, and Pui O Beach in Islands District have been lowered and the beaches have been reopened.

The beaches were temporarily closed earlier on after palm stearin had been found at the beaches. According to the Environmental Protection Department, the water quality at the beaches has improved and is suitable for swimming.

Although the beaches have by and large been cleaned up, there might still be trace amounts of palm stearin pellets remaining in the sand. Members of the public should stay alert at the reopened beaches, and not let children play with palm stearin pellets or put them into their mouths for the sake of safety.
