South Bay Beach reopened
************************
Attention TV/radio announcers:

Please broadcast the following as soon as possible and repeat it at regular intervals:

Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (August 14) that the red flag at South Bay Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island, has been lowered and the beach has been reopened.

The beach was temporarily closed earlier on after palm stearin had been found at the beach. According to the Environmental Protection Department, the water quality at the beach has improved and is suitable for swimming.

Although the beach has by and large been cleaned up, there might still be trace amounts of palm stearin pellets remaining in the sand. Members of the public should stay alert at the reopened beach, and not let children play with palm stearin pellets or put them into their mouths for the sake of safety.
