Arts fun day, exhibitions and variety show among highlights of 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)

     An arts fun day, exhibitions and a variety show will be held in the coming days as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

     The fifth leg of the "HKSAR 20th Anniversary Roving Exhibition" will open at the Ocean Terminal Main Concourse at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui on August 17 and run until August 24.

     An LED touchscreen panel will be set up at the venue to showcase the developments and achievements of the HKSAR over the past 20 years in areas such as the economy, technology, infrastructure, tourism, culture and sport. The exhibition will also feature winning entries of the 20th anniversary poster and video competitions.

     Other exhibition attractions will include an interactive game zone and a giant rubber duck, a birthday cake and a longevity bun for photo-taking and selfies. The 20th anniversary theme song "Hong Kong Our Home" and two promotional videos with the theme "Together · Progress · Opportunity" will also be shown. Visitors can take home a 20th anniversary souvenir distributed on the day by clicking the "Like" button on the HKSAR 20th anniversary Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HKSAR20) at the exhibition venue.
 
     The opening hours of the exhibition are from 10am to 9pm. Members of the public are welcome to visit and admission is free.

     The "Bravo! Floral Sensation!" arts fun day, to be staged for the second time this month in association with the outdoor art project "City Dress Up‧Blossoming Stairs" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the collaborator Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, will offer extraordinary sensory experiences for participants.

     The fun day will be held on August 20 from 2pm to 6pm at Tai Po Waterfront Park near the Lookout Tower. Members of the public are welcome to participate with free admission. Highlight activities include DIY stamp tote bag making, arts workshops and a painting activity, as well as music and dance performances.

     Two fun-filled events will take place at Victoria Park on August 20.

     Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Toy Formula 1 @Victoria Park" will be held at soccer pitch No. 1 of Victoria Park from 3pm to 6pm on August 20 as part of the "Storm the Park" campaign. Visitors will be able to enjoy radio-controlled model car parades, demonstrations and other activity sessions on the day.

     During the event, the venue will be turned into three racing circuits and a parade area for radio-controlled model cars. Experienced participants can show their skills on a large racing circuit, while beginners may enjoy the fun of operating radio-controlled model cars on the two smaller racing circuits. Professionals will be present at the event to offer guidance and assistance to participants, as well as share their experience through demonstrations.

     The other carnival at Victoria Park on August 20 will be the Wan Chai Fun-filled Lawn Carnival and Opening Ceremony in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Reunification with the Motherland, to be held at the central lawn of the park from 2pm to 7pm.

     Co-organised by the Wan Chai District Council and local organisations of Wan Chai District, the carnival aims to promote community and family harmony through a series of activities including game booths, dancing and stage performances. Admission is free.

     More than 100 participants from 12 performance groups will perform in "The Cultures and Colors of Ethnic Minorities Variety Show" on August 20 from 1.30pm to 5pm at the football pitch of Southorn Playground in Wan Chai.

     Organised by the International Social Service Hong Kong Branch HOPE Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities, the show will feature the cultures, dances and songs of various ethnic minority groups and local Chinese performing arts groups. Booths will also be set up for children to have fun and for ethnic minority groups to showcase their unique garments.

     Organised by the Tin Shui Wai Residents Services Association Fund Committee and the Yuen Long District Council, "Musical Exhibition in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR" will be open on August 16 in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai and run until August 27.

     An exhibition will be held in the Yuen Long Theatre Foyer, where a 22-metre-long version of "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival", made by cross-stitching in an effort spanning four years, will be on display. The work offers a unique presentation of the renowned Chinese painting, and its display will be complemented by a Chinese and modern dance performance. In addition, a musical performance telling the stories of youth in Tin Shui Wai will also be staged in different locations in Tin Shui Wai for public enjoyment.

     "Parent-child Four-wheel Drive GO! GO! GOAL! Celebrating the Day of Reunification of Hong Kong with China" will be held on August 17 from 1pm to 5pm at the ground floor of the Domain mall in Yau Tong.
 
     The event is organised by Windshield Charitable Foundation Social Services and the Kowloon East Chaoren Association, aiming to enrich family relationships through playing with models of four-wheel drives. Highlight activities will include workshops, a four-wheel drive competition and booth games suitable for all ages.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together • Progress • Opportunity".

     Altogether, more than 900 events and activities are being staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
