"Eternal Life - Exploring Ancient Egypt", a major exhibition of the Hong Kong Science Museum, received its 500,000th visitor this morning (August 11). The public response to the exhibition has been overwhelming since its opening on June 2, with an average daily attendance of more than 8,000, breaking the museum’s average daily attendance record for a thematic exhibition.

The exhibition has attracted a great number of visitors who wish to learn more about the culture of ancient Egypt. It has recorded the highest daily attendance of over 13,000.

The 500,000th visitor to the exhibition was greeted warmly by the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, and the Executive Director of Charities and Community of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr Leong Cheung, and was also presented with a souvenir pack.

The "Eternal Life - Exploring Ancient Egypt" exhibition crosses the boundaries between history, culture and science while exhibiting six Egyptian mummies between 1,800 and 3,000 years old and around 200 invaluable objects. Advanced tomography scanning technology has been applied to provide an alternative approach for visitors to appreciate the culture of ancient Egypt. In addition, a multimedia programme and a series of interactive exhibits have been designed and developed by the Hong Kong Science Museum to further enhance visitors’ experiences.

The exhibition is one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is jointly presented by the LCSD and the Trustees of the British Museum, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and the British Museum. Solely sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, it is one of the exhibitions in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Series.

The exhibition will run until October 18. The Hong Kong Science Museum is located at 2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East. For details of the exhibition and related programmes, please visit the website at hk.science.museum/ms/el2017/eindex.html or call 2732 3232 for enquiries.
