Fatal traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau in the small hours today (August 8) in which a 57-year-old man was killed.

     About 0.45am, a medium goods vehicle driven by a 52-year-old man, a light goods vehicle driven by a 38-year-old man and a coach driven by a 57-year-old man were travelling in sequence along San Tin Highway towards Sheung Shui. When reaching near Mai Po Lung, the medium goods vehicle broke down. The light goods vehicle reportedly stopped but the coach failed to brake, resulting in a chain collision and the coach then crashed into a divider.

     Sustaining serious head injuries, the 57-year-old coach driver was certified dead at scene. A total of 14 male and one female passengers, aged 17 to 67, were injured and sent to Pok Oi Hospital, North District Hospital and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North, is underway.
