CE visits Beijing (with photos/video)

     The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, arrived in Beijing this afternoon (August 6) to commence her four-day visit. The first activity was to meet the young participants of the Beijing Palace Museum Conservation Internship Programme at the Palace Museum Learning Centre with the Director of the Palace Museum, Dr Shan Jixiang.

     As part of the activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the internship programme was participated by 15 young people each from Hong Kong and Guangdong to learn about conservation of cultural heritage and museum management, and enhance exchanges between young people from both places through six weeks of internship and cultural activities.  

     Mrs Lam then visited "Dialogue: The Forbidden City and the Maritime Silk Road" exhibition at the Palace Museum, in which more than a hundred artefacts were displayed. In the evening, Mrs Lam attended a dinner with Dr Shan and the young interns.

     Mrs Lam expressed gratitude to the Palace Museum for its staunch support for the Hong Kong Palace Museum project and its collaboration with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in recent years to hold large-scale exhibitions annually. The exhibitions which enabled Hong Kong people to appreciate the valuable collection of the Palace Museum and its fascinating history were well-received by members of the public.
