Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong announced
***************************************************************

The Government announced today (August 4) that the Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong (Subsidy Scheme) will include eligible full-time self-financing locally-accredited local and non-local undergraduate and top-up degree programmes from 15 institutions for the cohort to be admitted in the 2017/18 academic year. The programmes are listed in the Annex.

The Subsidy Scheme was one of the priority measures announced by the Chief Executive on July 5 this year to support quality education. The relevant funding proposal was approved by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council on July 19.

Under the Subsidy Scheme, a non-means-tested annual subsidy of $30,000 will be provided to Hong Kong students:

(a) attaining "3322" in the Hong Kong Diploma for Secondary Education Examination when they are enrolled in eligible self-financing undergraduate programmes; or

(b) with sub-degree qualifications (i.e. after completing relevant sub-degree programmes) when they are enrolled in eligible self-financing top-up degree programmes.

Both new and continuing students meeting the criteria are eligible for the subsidy, which is tenable for the normal duration of the programmes concerned and will be disbursed to the participating institutions based on the actual enrolment of eligible students. Eligible students enrolling in the relevant programmes will pay a tuition fee after subsidy. Students in need may still apply for student financial assistance in respect of the actual amount of tuition fees payable.
