Hongkong Post to issue "Rare and Precious Plants in Hong Kong" special stamps (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
Hongkong Post announced today (August 2) the issue of a set of special stamps on the theme of "Rare and Precious Plants in Hong Kong", together with associated philatelic products, on August 17 (Thursday).

Located on the northern fringe of the tropics and blessed with warm weather and abundant rainfall, Hong Kong boasts a rich variety of species of flora, including many rare and precious plants. Apart from having high aesthetic value, plants are also an invaluable asset to nature. In particular, plants are indispensable to human beings as well as other organisms. To raise public awareness about conservation of rare and precious plants as well as their natural habitats, Hongkong Post is issuing a set of special stamps entitled "Rare and Precious Plants in Hong Kong".

This set of four stamps depicts the characteristics and forms of four rare and precious plants found in the territory, namely Ilex graciliflora ($1.70), Bulbophyllum bicolor ($2.90), Begonia hongkongensis ($3.70) and Illicium angustisepalum ($5). To echo the theme, the stamps and souvenir sheet are printed with paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and distinguished by the use of raw materials and production processes that comply with stringent standards.

Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.30 each at all post offices from tomorrow (August 3). The stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from tomorrow to August 9.

Information about this special stamp issue and associated philatelic products is available on Hongkong Post's website at www.hongkongpost.hk and the Hongkong Post mobile app.
