Talented twin pianists to perform virtuoso compositions in September

     Talented young local pianists Chau Lok-ping and Chau Lok-ting will perform a selection of virtuoso compositions in September.

     The programme will feature Dvořák's "From the Bohemian Forest, Op. 68", Ravel's "Rapsodie Espagnole", Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56" and Bolling's "Sonata for Two Pianos, Percussion and Double Bass". 

     Twin sisters Chau Lok-ping and Chau Lok-ting have won piano awards in several international competitions including the 64th ARD International Music Competition in Munich (Germany), the Fourth International Piano Duo Competition in Bialystok (Poland), the Fourth San Marino International Piano Duo Competition and the Grieg A Deux International Two Piano Competition (Norway). The twins have often been invited to music festivals in Europe, and have played with the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra and the Bialystok Symphony Orchestra, as well as Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, they were awarded the André Hoffmann prize at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad International Music Festival in Switzerland. The Home Affairs Bureau has awarded commendations to the Chau sisters for making an outstanding contribution to international arts and cultural activities. 

     The twins received their master's degrees at the Hannover University for Music, Drama and Media and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. They have variously been recipients of the German DAAD Scholarship, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund and the Robert H N Ho Family Foundation Scholarships for Outstanding Merit. Their teachers included leading pianists Eleanor Wong and Alexander Tamir, and acclaimed duos Genova and Dimitrov and Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen.

     "Our Music Talents Series: Piano Duo Ping & Ting" will be staged at 8pm on September 16 (Saturday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.      The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is presenting the Our Music Talents Series to nurture and support local emerging artists and groups and provide them with performing opportunities, enabling them to develop and showcase their achievements.
