Company's director fined for default on Labour Tribunal award
*************************************************************
One of the directors of SNA Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department (LD) for defaulting on the sums awarded by the Labour Tribunal under the Employment Ordinance (EO). The director was convicted earlier at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts.  He was fined $60,000 and ordered to clear the outstanding amount of $130,000 in total to two employees via the court today (July 25).

The company failed to pay the awarded sums of $130,000 in total to two employees within 14 days after the payment date specified in the Labour Tribunal award under the EO. The concerned director was convicted for his consent, connivance or neglect in the above offences.

"The ruling helps disseminate a strong message to all employers and responsible officers of companies that they have to pay employees awarded sums according to the terms of the awards issued by the Labour Tribunal under the EO," a spokesman for LD said.

"LD will not tolerate these offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the Employment Ordinance and safeguarding employees’ statutory rights," the spokesman added.
