To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, starting from July 23 the Art Promotion Office will display 20 sets of innovative seats at 20 venues across the 18 districts managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The venues include parks, waterfront, leisure areas and playgrounds, offering members of the public a fun and unique outdoor experience.

The outdoor art project "City Dress Up: Seats · Together" is presented by the LCSD and organised by the Art Promotion Office. An opening party was held today (July 22) at the Culture Plaza of the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section).

Speaking at the party, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, said that the specially designed seats bring not only artistic elements and vibrancy to the city, but also showcase the characteristics of the respective districts. He said he hoped that the project can explore more possibilities for the use of open space through these innovative seats, as well as enhancing understanding and interaction among individuals and communities.

Four guest curatorial teams including Billy Tam, Joshua Lau, Yip Chun-hang, and Brian Lee and Denise Chan were invited to participate in the project. With the assistance of guest curatorial teams, 20 promising and budding artist teams have created 20 sets of innovative seats which are aesthetically appealing and functional. The seats have been specifically made to echo with the environment and the characteristics of the respective locations or districts, injecting artistic elements into Hong Kong's city scene and promoting solidarity in communities.

Other officiating guests at the opening party included the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, and representatives from the 18 district councils.
