Establishment of Tseung Kwan O Police District (with photo)

     Police today (July 21) held an opening ceremony of Tseung Kwan O Police District in Tseung Kwan O Police Station. Tseung Kwan O Police Division was upgraded to an independent Police District under Kowloon East Region, marking a milestone in the development of policing work.

     Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, accompanied by Regional Commander of Kowloon East Region, Mr Duncan McCosh, inaugurated the Tseung Kwan O Police District at the opening ceremony. More than 300 guests from the community also attended.

     Tseung Kwan O Police Division was established under Kwun Tong Police District in 1992. In view of the rapid development and population growth in Tseung Kwan O, the Force has planned to upgrade the Tseung Kwan O Police Division by strengthening resources to meet the policing needs of the community.

     The newly-established Tseung Kwan O Police District has an establishment of 434 officers. It has its Crime Squads, Anti-Triad Section and Intelligence Section to detect complicated crimes. Police Community Relations Office, Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call are also formed to foster community communication and engagement.

     At present, Tseung Kwan O has a population of more than 440,000. It is expected that the residential population will reach 500,000 by 2024. Police will continue to observe the development in Tseung Kwan O and adopt an incremental approach to allocate manpower for the future policing needs in the area.
