Cluster of respiratory syncytial virus cases in Pok Oi Hospital

The spokesperson for Pok Oi Hospital made the following announcement today (July 16):
Four patients (aged 63 to 81) and a staff member in an infirmary ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since July 9. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of the patients were positive to respiratory syncytial virus. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition, and the staff has recovered.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
