Cluster of Influenza A cases at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

     The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (July 14):

     Three patients (aged 21 to 44) in a female Psychiatric Ward have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since July 11. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and all confirmed positive for Influenza A. One patient has already been discharged, while the remaining two are being treated under isolation and are in a stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
