LegCo Members meet with members of Eastern and Sham Shui Po District Councils (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) held separate meetings this morning (July 14) with members of the Eastern District Council (DC) and the Sham Shui Po DC respectively at the LegCo Complex to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.

     During the meeting with the Eastern DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on a number of issues, including safety issues of "garages in urban areas"; request for the provision of additional car parks in the Eastern District for large and heavy vehicles, school buses and private cars; request for the extension of the MTR Island Line to Siu Sai Wan; and retrofitting barrier-free facilities. The meeting was convened by Mrs Regina Ip, and attended by Mr James To, Mr Tommy Cheung, Ms Starry Lee, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Mr Charles Mok, Mr Kwok Wai-keung, Mr Martin Liao, Mr Poon Siu-ping, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Mr Holden Chow, Mr Shiu Ka-fai, Ms Tanya Chan, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan and Mr Lau Kwok-fan.

     As for the meeting with the Sham Shui Po DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on a number of issues, including development and planning of Tung Chau Street Temporary Market; policy on reprovisioning and redevelopment of sub-standard primary school premises; improving the facilities and management of public markets; issue of bogus refugees; bid-rigging in building maintenance works; and improving the hillside pedestrian facilities connecting Tai Po Road to the vicinity of Lei Cheng Uk Swimming Pool and upgrading the facilities of the park next to Lei Cheng Uk Swimming Pool. The meeting was convened by Mr Steven Ho and attended by Ms Starry Lee, Dr Priscilla Leung, Mr Charles Mok, Dr Helena Wong, Dr Elizabeth Quat, Dr Chiang Lai-wan, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Mr Chung Kwok-pan, Mr Wilson Or, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan, Mr Luk Chung-hung, Mr Lau Kwok-fan and Mr Kenneth Lau.
