Temporary traffic arrangement at Lion Rock Tunnel Kowloon bound from this Saturday in phases
******************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (July 12) reminded members of the public that during the summer holidays, temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented at Lion Rock Tunnel (Kowloon-bound) in five phases at weekends to facilitate road repair works at the Kowloon exit of Lion Rock Tunnel. In phase one, the slow lane of Lion Rock Tunnel (Kowloon-bound) from its toll plaza to the Kowloon exit will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic from 10pm this Saturday (July 15) to 4am next Monday (July 17).

Following the completion of emergency road repair works for more seriously damaged road surfaces at the Kowloon exit of Lion Rock Tunnel between August and October last year, the above arrangement is to facilitate the Highways Department to carry out road repair works at the remaining damaged road sections in five phases.

Due to the lane closure, the TD anticipates that the Kowloon-bound traffic at Lion Rock Tunnel will be very congested. Motorists passing through the road section concerned should exercise tolerance, patience and drive with utmost care. Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on site to guide motorists.

Motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes such as Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon.

Commuters taking public transport services are advised to use railway services or bus services via Route 8 (Tsing Sha Highway), Shing Mun Tunnels, Tai Po Road or Tate's Cairn Tunnel to Kowloon. They are also advised to plan their journey in advance and allow more travelling time to avoid unexpected delay.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television. Details of the temporary traffic arrangement are now available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk).

The phase 2 road repair works at Lion Rock Tunnel (Kowloon-bound) are planned to be carried out at the weekend on July 29 depending on weather conditions. Members of the public are advised to pay attention to the temporary traffic arrangement to be announced by the TD later.
